I didn’t like this when I made my first one, so many years ago. Then it turns out that I still have my first rug in this pattern. It has worn and washed well. Holds it’s shape well. Looks great in front of a doorway or at the bottom of stairs.
I am going to make another!
I am holding 4 strands of the cream, 1 strand each of the green variegated yarns. Although mine are DK weight. One is a lighter version of the other.
This is to match another rug that I made as a hall runner.
The 7 mm hook is for the foundation row.
The projected width of this rug on the straight side is 35 inches.
I chained 92 for a width of 33 inches. There is a 2 inch border on the round side. I have plenty of yarn.
If this isn’t thick enough, I will add more of the cream, water damaged yarn. I am just concerned about working with so many strands.
Since I am working with a “thinner” yarn, I have changed the stitches to hdc. Which means I am doing a t-ch 2 on each end.
Curve
At Row 25, I started the decreases to create the curve. My rug was only about 1 inch short in height but I have a lot more stitches across in the width. So, to do the rounding, I did the decreasing a bit differently.
I just made sure that what I did at the beginning of the row was the same at the end of the row.
Border
I am going to do the border around the curved section, then when that is finished, I will do the border across the flat section. This should keep my corners nicer.
After the sc row, I added a row of hdc for some depth to the border.
I finished the curved side with a reverse sc (crab stitch).
