I love the modified version Kalinda with reliefs by ianamajlinger. My yarn isn’t as vividly colored as hers so, I doubt it will be so dramatic.
I am going to attempt her version of this shawl as I love the texture. Maybe some day I can afford that really cool yarn and do it again. In the meantime, I am going with the cheaper Lion’s Brand of a color run. If this doesn’t work because the color run is too short, then I shall try again with some brown yarn that I have.
I suspect the color run is so short in this cheap yarn that this may look like clown puke.
My yarn is DK instead of fingering. Going to use a G (4.25 mm) hook.
What I did
I have completed rows 1-11, exactly as the instructions state. Verifying my stitch counts.
Row 12, I substituted a fpdc for the bldc. This is to get the desired ridge.
This is the pattern repeat. It is hard to follow because of all the pictures.
Row 12 -> row 2 - fpdc in this row
Row 13 -> row 9
Row 14 -> row 10
Row 15 -> row 11
repeat stitch pattern until desired length
Yes, I am omitting a section of the stitch pattern.
Border
I added 1 row of dc all the way across and then 1 row of (sc, sk 2 dc, 5 dc, sk 2) repeat all the way across. This last row was the shells. The scalloped shells worked well with the long scallops in the body of the shawl. The extra row of dc brought the stitches down a ways from the texture ridge.
I used up ALL of the 2 skeins of yarn except for a small ball of leftover yarn about 1.5 inches in diameter. It was perfect.
Comments
This yarn worked a lot better than I thought it would for this repeating pattern. The only thing that I do not like about this pattern is that the center back twists to one side. This is acrylic yarn so, I will have to see if I can steam it to lay flat. This will be tricky as I don’t want to flatten the ridges.
