I am using up 4 old cones of yarn. Two are cotton, I think the other 2 are acrylic. The cottons have a partial label, the acrylics -1 has a company name on the inside of the cone, the other nothing. The yardage is purely guess work.
This is intended as a gift for a toddler granddaughter to have her own bag. Doubling up the yarn to make it thicker.
I think I am going to make matching bags for her sister and mom. Her mom is big into the matching thing.
This is a free pattern on Ravelry that references the website. No where does she give any recommendation for yarn, amount of yarn, hook size, etc. You get what you pay for!
Started with a magic circle instead of a ch 5 circle. I am hoping I can close the circle this way more than if it is a chain circle. Less holes in the bottom for things to fall out. - Or so I thought. Now, I don’t think the size of the hole is going to matter.
The base is going to be smaller than the recommended 12 inches, since this is for a wee person.
Base = 6.5 inches square
First round of side
I turned because I had a definite front and back when I looked at the joins. My first round, I worked into the back TWO loops of the previous row. This was to keep it strong and to facilitate in a cleaner turn from the bottom onto the side.
I tried the corners that other projects recommended to do dc2tog and not skip 4 stitches. Turns out, I like the skip 4 stitches the best. It make the nicest square corner for the bag. The other types of corners look dorky.
What I did - 2 stitches before middle marker, I did a dc2tog where I skipped the 4 middle stitches. The dc2tog was to keep the join tight over the decrease.
On the 2nd row around (and all the rows after), I only skipped 3 stitches in the middle under my dc2tog. This is because when I made a dc2tog, I had decreased the center by 1 stitch. Doing this kept all the sides even and maintained a symmetrical corner.
Straps
I did a ch 40 and 3 rounds of sc. Decreases in the corners between the bag and the strap to keep the straps lined up nicely.
1st bag finishes 10/5
Base = 6.5 in square
side = 3.5 inches
strap = ch 40
2nd Bag started 10/6
Now, I am going to make a slightly larger bag and reverse the colors.
Base = 7.5 in square
side = 7 inches
strap = ch 40
3rd Bag started 10/7
This is the full size bag.
Base = 11.5 in square
side = 12.5 inches
strap = ch 80
