I am using an unlabeled (vintage) yarn that is on cones. I am using 4 strands (1 strand from each cone) to make a worsted weight yarn.
Not sure if I am going to make a young adult or a ladies size hat. I need lots of hats for Xmas and I want each hat to look different. But I am running out of time to make a hat for everyone that I wanted to get a hat.
If this is really fast, I may make 2 of these just to get some hats finished. I wanted to make some matching scarves, too. Sigh … Just not enough time!
It’s so hard to measure circumference. So, let’s just go with diameter. So much easier.
Crown
My diameter is 6.25 in which puts me right between teen and small adult sizes (19” and 20”) circumference. I did the first 1-9 rows.
My only comment is that she says “next sc” at the very beginning of each round. I think it should read “in the same sc as join”. This worked for me and I stayed on count.
Body
Working up as easy as the pattern says.
I have finally figured out why there are 2 hooks. The I hook is for the crown and body of the hat. The G hook is for the ribbing. No, I don’t read the pattern all the way through before I work on it. I read the parts I need as I need them.
Ribbing
I am using the G hook, worsted weight yarn, and did the full 11 sc for the ribbing. My ribbing is only 2.5 inches instead of 3 inches.
Dimensions
crown diameter = 6.25 inches
length of body = 6.5 inches
ribbing = 2.5 inches
circumference (edge of ribbing) = 21 inches
circumference (edge of body) = 20 inches
ETA - The beanie now has a navy pom pom on the top. I think it looks much better with the pom pom. I used a button on the inside as the pom pom had a small elastic loop. I forgot to take another picture of the beanie with the pom pom before I gave it back to my granddaughter.
