Notes

Ok so there are no free top-down raglan patterns for babies, huh? Hard to believe but I’ve given up looking and I’m going to unvent one.

Incorporating some of the adaptations from Lucas’ Lil Grandpa, like the purl round before the ribbing and the nice matching cast-offs .

Notes here will make it possible to do another one, or that’s the plan.

Going for 24-25” chest.

edge stitch 1
front 1
raglan 1
sleeve 6
raglan 1
back 26
raglan 1
sleeve 6
raglan 1

M1L/M1R after/before front edges, before/after sleeve & back raglans, pointing away from raglans and towards edge stitches

Purl all WS except edge sts garter

4-row stripes marl/non-marl
increase at front edges only on 1st row of new stripe

Stop increasing fronts here:
1 edge x 2
21 fronts x 2
1 raglan x 4
28 sleeve x 2
48 back
152

Divide front/back/sleeves

1 edge
26 front
7 underarm
58 back
7 underarm
26 front
1 edge
126

1 + 38 + 1 sleeve inc raglans
on scrap yarn
40

The 7 underarm sts (body & sleeve)
RS: K1, P1, K3, P1, K1
WS: P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1

Knit to length 5” in the body, 1 purl row, change to 3.5mm, 1.5”, cast off.

Pick up sleeves.

Sleeve decreases:
ssk/k2tog 4 & 5 sts from centre marked st
2 sts reduced in every set
5 sets in 6.5” sleeve length

Change to 3.5mm needles, purl 1 round
decrease to 34 sts in next round of 1x1 rib, matching purl rows to ‘seam’ sts.

1.25” of 1x1 ribbing
cast off in pattern using 4mm needle

Collar
Picking up 1st in every bar along the garter edge, and one in every stitch across the sleeve heads and back neck and k one row.

Then, marking end/beginning of v neck shaping, knit to 2nd marker around, w&t, then knit back to 1st marker, w&t. Leaving 1st before each wrapped stitch, continue in this way making a wedge around the yoke fronts and back neck to form the collar. Stop the short rows when the w&t reaches the front shoulder. Then knit around, no need to pick up wraps, they don’t show in the garter.

Knit approx 3/4” of garter for the button bands & to increase the collar.

Buttonholes according to the one row method here, each buttonhole over 3 stitches, left side for boys, buttons on the right. Other side for girls.

Knit another 1/2-3/4” of garter so that the buttonholes line up down the centre of the front bands.

Cast off with a 2-stitch icord.

FO pictures after washing.

Buttons on finally 24th June (Brexit day).
