7.20.13 Cast on. The top down aspect was fun to knit. This pattern could also be easily knit from the bottom up for those not looking for the additional challenge.

7.27.13 Hat is coming along nicely. I am a little over halfway through the chart. Just a note- the chart is incorrect on the second diamond. If you are looking at the chart, it’s on the upper righthand corner in the center of he second diamond. Two “Y’s” are placed where they shouldn’t be.

8.07.13 Began the “braid” along the brim. This is a cool technique! Currently it is in the red and ochre, however now I am uncertain if this is the best combination. I may switch to red/white or ochre/white.

8.10.13 Unfortunately, the hat was way too big! This is the issue with knitting a hat from the top down- you can’t easily see the circumference or try it on. Fortunately, the colorwork and shaping lent itself to becoming a tam instead. I simply made the band tighter (decreasing. Every 3 stitches) and shaped it over a dinner plate.
