My mom made me what I believe was this hat a couple years ago, and I love it since I wear my hair in a bun 96% of the time. Hers is brightly coloured and cabled, and I wanted something more neutral coloured and a little less complex looking to have some more options.
To be totally honest, I skimmed the pattern and then decided to just kind of wing it. I also decided to add a purled spiral to add some interest (k6p1).
CO 68. Decreased to 56 after the ribbing. Did.. 14 rows before my first decrease row.

11/19/15 - I almost finished and then decided I actually wanted some more rows so I could pull it down a little farther on my ears. I’m quite pleased with how it’s coming along, though. With how fast it’s knit up so far, I think I can rip out ~half and reknit it in just a couple days, and then I’ll have a nice soft warm hat I can wear with my hair up!

11/20/15 - Finished! Honestly, even thought I ripped back to the decreases and decreased slower (the first time I decreased every other row, this time I did ever four rows) it feels like it fits the same. Which is fine - I’m not sure I can get it to cover my earlobes without also coming down too far over my eyes.
I gave it a test drive today and was quite pleased. The yarn is nice and soft and the hat felt quite warm and comfy, and went over my bun very well.
