Over the weekend I had already surpassed where I stopped with the previous attempt. I transferred to circulars, which is always exciting. Just now I switched to my 24” cable rather than my 16”. So far, so good! I feel much better about it now.

Today I finally got to the second ball. It’s incredible to me that it’s taken this long to get through just one ball of yarn!

After a looong time of being in hibernation, I’ve made significant progress! Or, at least, it feels significant because I finally got to turn the page, and now I’m less than 10 rows from starting the edging. So that’s exciting!

I finished the last row before edging today! Now to tackle the edging. :o

It took me several attempts to figure out how to do the edging. What I finally figured out: Cast on 17 stitches with the waste yarn, as it says. Knit the set up row with the actual project yarn. Then go on to row 2. Then proceed as normal.
I was trying all sorts of things trying to figure out how going from the set up row to row 1 could make sense. It doesn’t! I just needed some kind of indication that the first time through, I do the set up row instead of row 1, not in addition to. Once I did that, it seemed to work fine.

That being said, this edging is going to take forever! Since every other row represents one stitch of the last row, that’s, what, 640x2 rows of edging?

I can’t believe I’ve finally finished!

I finished the edging finally yesterday. Indeed, as I said in my last note, it felt like it took forever! I worked on it at least every week, and the progress felt sooo slow. But at least, it is done.

I was surprised that the pattern simply ends when you finish the edging. There’s no mention of how you join it with the live stitches or anything else. I tried a kitchner join but it came out kind of ugly.

After I finished I blocked it. Unblocked, it was about 36”. It blocked to about 45”. I was worried, because it seemed like a lot of umbrella frames were 48”.

Today I went to a thrift store and picked up an umbrella. I mutilated it and then attached my parasol, and it seems like the dimensions are just right. :)

Now I just have to wait for morning (it’s 2 am now) so I can take beautiful parasol pictures in the sunlight!
