“When we engage in fibre arts, we are creating something, but we’re also participating in historic traditions tens of thousands of years old. You are not only making art for your soul and future generations, you are embodying the work of our ancestors.” -- quote from The Woven Road.
YARN: I’m using dk instead of fingering but already may have misjudged -- I think I should have begun with a Small instead of Medium since I’m using dk but I’ll see as I go along; perhaps I can make an adjustment. Now that it’s finished, it worked out okay and, as I knew it would, is much more casual than in fingering.
CAST ON: Used the knitted cable cast on. I’ve since read some people have used a provisional cast on and then went in and knit an I-cord edge to finish the neck nicely -- will do that with the next Antler I knit. How’s that for being optimistic?
SLEEVES: I always have problems with sleeves and this was no exception. I do use the knitted cable-cast-on to add the underarm stitches but my issues are more with the gaps and how to pick up properly. After struggling with the first underarm of sleeve, I finally found a video that was extremely helpful both in how detailed she explains and demonstrates what to look for and what to do. Huge difference after watching her video! Sleeves took longer to knit than the rest of the sweater.
PATTERN: I love her patterns.
“Knitting is clothing made in spare moments, or round the fire, whenever women gathered together… It’s something to celebrate-clothes made in love and service, something women have always done.”
