With only small amounts of a few colors of cotton yarn left in my stash, I decided that an in-the-round motif would be an easy way to use them up with attractive results, not sloppy uneven stripes.

RND 1: Magic circle, ch 1, (sc in circle, ch 2) 4x, close circle, sl st join to front loop of first sc. RND 2: Sc in both loops of same sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp 4x. RND 3: Continuing in-the-round, sc until next corner, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp 4x, sc until next corner. RND 4 to about 11: Rep rnd 3 until piece measures 6 1/2 inches square. FINAL RND: Sc around, with 3 sc in each ch-2 sp, sl st join to first sc, fasten off, weave in ends.
