Used my first attempt as a gauge swatch knitting on 3mm DPNs. Came out at 8 st per inch which is what I normally get but spotted this pattern calls for 9 st per inch. As such, frogged off before we go any further.

Now, do I stick with this gauge but drop to size small (64 st after increases) or do I stick with 68 stitches and drop to 2.75mm or 2.5mm?

Time to think whilst I relax and dry the yarn.

Cast on for the second attempt.

Dropped to 2.5mm needle and stuck at 68 stitch size.

Leave yarn tail of red about the length of one needle before beginning Judy’s magic cast on.
