My friend Rene does a gift project for the poor and the homeless at Christmas time so I agreed to knock out a few 100% woolen handknit hats for him to give away to those who could use some warmth over the winter. The light blue-white lace hat and the fuzzy merino black hat were yarns from my stash that I had worked up into trial pieces to see how the pattern/textures worked, I had left them on the needle so I just finished them up into hats. The others were Elann.com chunky/bulky wools, done in rib stitch with either 72 or 64 stitches across, a quick every-other-stitch decrease at the end once I got the right length, with a bit of simple color striping for visual interest. I’ll probably do another half dozen or so more of these over the holidays. It’s a nice rest from longer, more complicated projects, and it feels good to make something of quality and comfort for people that can use it.
