long post- info on rhss stripes.

this is one of the newer rhss stripes, favorite stripe. i will be making a pillow cover out of it because the sequence is so large. i chose to start a new row at the beginning of a new color (46 dc in each row/color). it measures 16” across.

what i have shown in the main picture here is 1 full color sequence (1012 dc) with an i 5.50mm hook. there are 20 colors in one sequence, 2 of which are double the length of the others (the blue and the darker green). i chose to make a pattern with 1/22 of the sequence wide to make horizontal stripes.

why these yarns are not ideal for “argyle” type pooling:

one full sequence would be 1012 dc wide, half sequence would be 506. even at a half sequence, this project would be GIGANTIC! there is not even 2 full color sequences in one skein, so at a half sequence, i would only be able to get about 3 rows. (my skein ends at the next orange. for it to be two sequences, it would have to end at the start of blue).

think how crazy would it be to try and attach the next skein? i have 5 other skeins of this colorway. not one of them matches up from the inside or the outside, so i would need to cut a lot of the yarn to get to my next starting point.

but… just for fun, i have attached pictures so we could see how beautiful these patterns would look.

picked this back up today, made the panel 68” long and attached the two ends to match the color.
i wasn’t quite wide enough to fit around the pillow cover, so i used the boysenberry yarn and made 1 sc row and 1 dc row all around on each long end. i left a long tail on each side.
i mattress stitched the front side shut.

i inserted the pillow form and temporarily sewed the back side shut. this is temporary so that i can cover the pillow form with fabric later.
