Notes

Using up all my old skeins of dyer supplier merino sport. Using the khaki color for CC and trying to make a gradient with the MC. We’ll see what happens.

Opted for the flat neck and twisted rib. First time doing twisted and am super happy with how it turned out.

Established color work before adding in second gradient color. Decided to work in rounds alternating color 1 and color 2 rather than just solid rounds of each. Hoping for a gentler gradient effect. Working off of the same concept as ANKESTRiCK and the simple something sweater but with single strands instead of held together. Fingers crossed.

Finished Update:

  • Oh wow. Row gauge matters on this sweater a lot! The yoke is a bit deeper than I’m used to, and so the sleeves and armpits start lower than I was expecting. My row gauge was 28=4 inches, which definitely added some length as well. The colorwork was a bit tricky in some spots! However, it’s notated meticulously and beautifully in the pattern, I think I just got lost on a few occasions. It’s well worth the effort though, as it turns out beautifully. Though the gradient isn’t as soft as I originally imagined, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. The whole piece definitely has a more relaxed fit on me, which I think is fine. I learned a ton on this project.

Questions:

  • Does anyone have any tips on colorwork using magic loop on the cuffs? Whenever I would turn the work I’d try to pay extra attention to the floats at these parts, but they still ended up puckering. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Modifications:

  • Decreased body by 28 stitches 4 inches from underarm to tighten things up a bit. I use bust measurements as a guide for my shoulder width and then generally come in a few inches after separating out the sleeves. But, I’d start these decreases immediately after the sleeve separation in the future.

  • Decreased sleeve cuffs to 54 stitches after colorwork. I generally like a tighter cuff.

  • No bottom of body colorwork.

Measurements Before Blocking:

  • Back of neck center to bottom of hem: 23.25”
  • Width of body before decreases: 21.75”
  • Width of body after decreases: 21.125”
  • Body Length from underarm: 14”
  • Sleeve Length from underarm: 17.25”
  • Sleeve width @ cuff: 3.33”

Finished Blocked Measurements:

  • Back of neck center to bottom of hem: 25.5”
  • Width of body before decreases: 20”
  • Width of body after decreases: 19”
  • Body length from underarm: 15”
  • Sleeve Length from underarm: 18”
  • Sleeve width @cuff: 3.33”
  • Yoke depth @ Front: 10.25”
