Notes

May be slightly big for me, but I love it. I wear it with jeans and boots.

Used two pewter toggles from Schoolhouse Press.

Nov 25: Completed first sleeve after devising my own patterning because original directions were too difficult for me. So I did the 3-stitch peerie for 13 inches, also accomplishing a gradual double decrease at underarm until I had 90 stitches. Then I did chart 3 and then finished with a change to my other background color and a 6-row herringbone motif, which matches the rest of the sweater’s patterning nicely. Ended with 2 rows of pearling and a bind off. I really really like this!

Nov 6: Ok, I caved. Tried turning the chart on its side (as instructed) for the sleeves but it was SO frustrating, partly due to not getting the right stitch count. I came up with my own 3-stitch peerie pattern for the sleeves, and will do a repeat of chart 3 just above the cuff. Hope no one tells Meg.

Oct 21: This is the week I begin the sleeves. Pray for me!

Oct 4: the body is now complete and I have joined the shoulder seams, 3-needle method.

I was NOT able to do short rows; tried, but to do them while keeping in pattern was just too much for my brain. Also I was NOT able to “arrange things” (as pattern suggests to have the decreases at the neckline follow the edge of one of the diamonds. There seems to be an error or omission in the row or stitch count in the all-too brief pattern notes.

Sept 8: Have made it to the underarms. Will now add the sleeve steeks.

Seriously - my biggest issue has become maintaining an even tension while holding strands of two colors. I don’t want to get any puckers.

July 31: I am beginning the body of the sweater, having completed the first 3 motifs. A little afraid of keeping straight on reversing the pattern at the center back. Lord help me!

July 24: Finished 2nd motif; gaining confidence. Established center back stitch in background color, reversing all patterning at that point. I recommend the book “Knitting with Two Colors” as a companion guide for this pattern. Authors: Meg Swansen, Amy Detjen.

July 18: Did 2 rows of garter stitch prior to launching into bottom edge motif; helps it lay flatter.

Ripped, restarted 3 times. Advice: read the pattern notes, work out the math until you understand it.

Fell in love with this sweater at Knit Camp 2013. Doing it in colors Meg used in the original.
