Couldn’t find a top I liked with lace patterning on the lower half, so decided to design my own. Using stitch patterns I had used years ago in a lace sampler scarf.
PCO 224 sts to work vertical trellis pattern, followed by Flemish lace. Will work the latter enough repeats to fill the lower body. Will PU the PCO and work the Pearl-Barrel Scallop pattern down to the BO to get the best zig-zag edge. Thinking through how I will do the sleeves. Might use vertical trellis around the top of the armhole and the Pearl-Barrel for the short sleeves. Possibly will use Vertical Trellis for neck band.

After knitting 224 sts in the round for several inches, it appears that my gauge swatch was all a lie. The circumference is about 5’’ larger than expected, so I pulled it out and now I have to decide if I want to use the gauge I had, but CO a smaller number (with the concern that the gauge would ultimately be too loose), or do another gauge swatch with the needle size that I think will get me closer to the right gauge with the stitch count I had (and that the gauge swatch will match the gauge in the garment).
One of the issues is that the main stitch pattern repeat is a multiple of 14 sts, so hitting an appropriate gauge that will also give me a circumference close to what I want is the tricky bit.
