Notes

This was a test knit, made for my daughter.

I really like the use of elastic here to give some support. Most of the support in “real” bras comes from the band, not the straps like you’d assume. So the elastic makes this an actually useful piece. I already had to explain to Esther she can’t wear it on its own.

I used a provisional cast-on, the one step c/o from Purl Soho. I also knitted the separate front and back straps at the same time with two cakes of yarn (one wound to meet the “right” color) and Kitchenered the straps instead of doing a 3-needle bind off. There is no good reason for this last bit, I just really like the opportunity to practice Kitchener stitch.

I will say that trying this on as you go is essential. I didn’t to begin with, and ended up regretting it. That’s not a knock on the pattern, which was clear and easy to understand even in a somewhat rough draft.

Don’t be scared by my teeny needles. Arthritis has made me the loosest knitter. Normal people probably won’t have a problem making gauge.
