Notes

I’m not writing a pattern for this, but I figured I should vaguely write down how I did it.

Hat starts with 8 HDC. It expands up to 56 stitches. Rounds of HDC alternate with rounds of loop stitch. The hat is 20 total rounds long, ending with a round of loop stitch.

After finishing the hat, I tied in bits of orange yarn and bits of brown yarn fringe style, then clipped all the loops (actually, I farmed most of the loop clipping out to a child).

After all that was done, the yarn was brushed out (again, farmed it out to a kid) until it was furry.

Ears start with 11 loop stitches. Next row (and every other row) are plain HDC with an HDC3tog in the center. Inner ears are made similarly in plain SC/HDC. Ear pieces are joined by SC, then the ears are sewn into place, some different-colored yarn is tied in, loops are clipped, & everything is brushed like before.
