Pattern test for Lynn @SilveryPaws on IG.
Started as a #2025PatternTest, but ended up as #2026PatternTest :
Pattern calls for Aran yarn and a 5mm hook, but I’m using DK with a 4mm hook, with border done in 5mm.
Working this in 2 colours instead of a different colour every row (Pattern uses 16 colours).
Final Weights:
(incl labels)
Purple cake NL07: 150g / 0g / (used 150g)
1746 Heather: ball 1: 100.66g / 0g / (100.66g)
ball 2: 101g / 0g / (101g)
ball 3: 104.36g / 64.28g / (40g)
-----> total used: 240g
Aurora AU04: (did i forget to weigh?!) ? / 54.54g (incl label 57.68g) / (45.46g)
(Weight left incl label & inner cones: 68.45g)

Started to see how it would look with 2 colours (spoiler: very VERY different!!) - did rows 1-10.
Dec 1, 2025
Discovered I’d done my spike st too tight, then realised the pattern changes on R9! So I ended up frogging back to R3 :(
Re-did R1-10 - much better tension. Then more … up to R10.

Dec 7-9, 2025
Plugging away, a few stitches at a time. Off to my mum’s for a few days, so possibly less time to do this.
Dec 11-17, 2025
Sporadic work on my blanket, but finished R30 now.
Dec 23, 2025
A couple more rounds done. Each one taking longer now!!
Dec 24, 2025
Ball 1 of King Cole Heather finished (1/4 way through R33).
Ball 2: 101g (weighed on SJM’s scales).
Dec 26-31, 2025
Did some more rounds, but sure how many…
Jan 2, 2025
R36: 39 granny clusters on each side between the corners clusters
Jan 3, 2025
R37 & R38.
Weigh purple cake:
. before 4th side of R38: 24.67g no labels
. after 4th side of R38: 21.5g no labels
Then x4 = 12g per round
…to get a rough idea of how much subsequent rounds would need
Jan 4-15, 2025
Had no luck finding any more Northern Lights (emailed someone on Ravelry, but no response).
Jan 17, 2025
Found some yarn that may do for some extra rounds (ball 44.47g) - EDIT: was the wrong colour.
Jan 25, 2026
After R40 i.e. 2 rounds of final repeat (1 round NL07):
… 17.26g incl inner (8.86g excl inner)
Before R40 (after R38):
… 21.5g no labels
Therefore R40 used (21.5g - 8.86g) = 12.64g

R41 & R42.
Ran out of James C Brett Northern Lights (NL07) just over halfway through the 3rd side of R43.
The Rowanspun (if it’s that - it looks different to my full labelled ball) is much much rougher (and a bit thicker) than the Northern Lights. Aaargh!! Used 3mm hook for this bit.

Tried several more options, but nothing right. Ended up getting a ball of James C Brett Aurora (AU04 Stormy Skies) because it has some similar shades and I’ll just cut out what I don’t need. It’s also a slightly thinner DK which suits better.

Updated feedback on revised file.
Continued with R43.

Feb 17, 2026
Finished R45 (R1 of repeat) - needed to start new ball (#3) of Heather (darker colour) on 4th side.
Feb 18, 2026
Completed half of R46, then ran out of lighter wool again. Need to unwind, cut & rewind some more.
Later in the evening, finished R46.
Started border with 5mm hook.

R1 of border (UK dc) was fine. But seemed to struggle for some reason with R2 (first linen st row). At the end of a side, I couldn’t always skip 1 st before the corner. I checked & double checked and triple checked the st count and all seemed OK…
Feb 20, 2026
…finally I gave up checking and overthinking and decided to just get the ‘base’ round done. The subsequent ones would be fine & it wouldn’t really notice. No videos or instructions that I could find anywhere online to explain linen stitch in the round.
Having done R2, I realised I loved the ittle windows of colour. And I knew that if I just alternated colours, I’d lose that effect - and i wanted to keep a checkerboard effect. So:
R1 base dc: purple
R2: linen st r1: lilac
R3: linen st r2: purple
R4: linen st r3: purple
R5: linen st r4: lilac
R6: linen st r5: purple
R7: linen st r6: purple

Decided to do a final (2nd) round in purple to finish - it felt more complete.
