#2026CrochetPatternTest : 10
Considering using either 4ply doubled (or with the 3ply ‘sable’ on a cone) OR rainbow DK.
Edit: decided on one strand 4ply plus one strand 3ply Sable on cone
April 4, 2026
R1: 1 strand Blue Sea (162) & 1 strand Turq (105)
R2: 1 strand Sunset (310) & 1 strand Red Sable
R3-5: 1 strand Fantasy Island (920) & 1 strand Cream Sable
Made square 1 (5 rounds).
Made 4 partial squares (2 rounds).
April 5, 2026
Finished 2 more squares.
April 6, 2026
Finished final 2 squares.
Joined base to sides with just one strand of Sable white using back loop sl st join on WS.
Needs blocking, so joined it in the ‘cross’ shape and left it to dry overnight.
April 7, 2026
Just realised looking at the ‘cross’ shape being blocked that I could have chosen the placement better, so the sides matched a little more. Oops! But too late to do anything now.
Joining the sides with the same joining method (back loop sl st join on WS), also using a chain st along various edges so I didn’t need to FO.

First round on the top after joining the squares:
Pattern says to do a granny cluster in the join between squares. I found this really difficult (maybe because of the type of join I used) and also I felt there was too much space between clusters either side. So I did a granny cluster (3dc) in each corner-space of each of the 2 joined squares where they met (iykwim), so I ended up with an extra cluster at each join.
Closure strap:
After making the chains, what I did was to go back down the chain too, because I wanted a thicker closure strap. And because I wanted dangly bits (like a tassel), I cut the yarn after the first chain length was made, then reattached the yarn to work slst back down the chain (in the back bobble).
Later I threaded each end halfway through a chain, tied it and cut the yarn. Then after doing this for all 4 ends, I wrapped some yarn around the top of the tassel & threaded it back down into the tassel.
Shoulder strap:
Made a longer version of the closure strap.
