Starting with smallest ball of bright multi (slightly different multi yarn in each square).

Using invisible join to end rows. Using standing sc/dc to begin rows.

Carried yarn rather than FO & cutting, to save time sewing in ends. Need to be careful whether to carry or just keep hold of the loop until it’s needed.

Also need to take care whether to keep the yarn at the front or back!! I had to undo the last slst on a couple of rounds to make sure the yarn was in front (will specify which, when I do my 2nd window).

R2: Instead of FO multi yarn, carry it up R3 & R4, to use in R5.

R3: keep multi yarn at back while doing R3 in black

R4: Instead of “ch 5, skip the first st, dc in the next st…“, do a standing US dc in 1st st plus ch 2 - otherwise the ch5 is to the right of the 1st st and the gap looks bigger.

At end of R4, bring multi yarn to front (in R5 it’s worked in front of R4 sts)

R5: yarn in front

R6: Instead of FO black yarn, carry it up R7 & R8, to use in R9.

R7: because of where I carried my yarn, I started 2 sts behind a FP st

R9: omg this was confusing!! I thought at first that when you do the FP sts, you need to skip a st from the previous round… but no, you need to grapple with the awful looseness of the FP sts and sc into the st behind it.

But I needed to change where the ‘sc7’ was, just so the triangles weren’t too lopsided:
3…88788888…4 (hopefully this makes sense when you look at R9 instructions).

Count the sts!!!

R10: Don’t forget the inc st, right at the end!!! It kind of disappears because of the wordiness of the rest of the round.
Also: note that in the 2nd one, I needed to slst to be a st to make 80 for the round.

R11: had to adjust this to make sure the corner sts were better spaced (and try to centralise them in at least one corner). If the st count was 80 from previous round, corner sts will be at each 20th st, so count 19 between corners (N.B. the first corner isn’t 20 sts from where R11 starts).

Because of where I started in this round, I started with the hdc, not the sc sts. Be aware of st count between corners!!!

Restarting to finish in time for Granny Square Day on Aug 15th…

August 9, 2025

Added a set of embroidered chain stitches to the pouch bag, so I can attach the squares (once I’ve added rows to 2 of the sides, to make it rectangular).

August 10, 2025

Added extra rows to each square, to make it wider. Starting at the top edge, did hdc (US) x3 rows along the 1st side. At the end of the 3rd row, do (hdc, ch2, sc) in the final st, then sc one row along the base with (sc, ch1, hdc) in final st of the 2nd side (base), then hdc row x3 along the 3rd side.

Weights used (for 2 squares):
Multi: 25.64g / 18.84g / (7g)
Black: 35.81g / 16.7g / (9g)

Extra black used to make 2 squares into a pouch bag: (16.7 - 7.03 = 9.67g)
i.e. 19g total
