Now that I opened all of the gifts from RoadTrip’s Herd of Cats 2022 advent kit, it’s time to knit with it. With some variegated skeins in the kit, I felt more comfortable knitting with garter stitch. I organized the kit into a gradient and knitted away, using Sesame as the main color.

At some point, I noticed that the gradient order didn’t seem right but I ignored it and continued on. But after I finished the 10th mini skein, I noticed that the wrap was short. Rereading the pattern, I realized that I was knitting less rows of garter stitch than what was written. That meant it was frogging time. However it gave me a chance to rearrange the order into the correct gradient. I even knitted 14 rows of garter stitch just in case.

Tips of what I did:

• I did YOs before and after icord second and dropped them instead of knitting them.
• When it came to the wrapping row, I purled, YO, wrapped the stitches, YO and repeated and on the next row, I dropped the YOs. This helped me not worry about wrapping the stitches tightly.
• I carried the main yarn inside the icord instead of cutting it.

Each mini skein weighed about 21 grams and after using them, they would weigh 13 grams. It seems that 7 or 8 grams are used for knitting 14 rows of garter stitch. Meanwhile the first and last mini skein used an extra gram or two for the cast on and bind off. As for the main color, Sesame, there were 31 grams remaining after finishing the shawl. I would have enough to make a second project with the leftovers.
