I knew I would play yarn chicken when I picked a skein with 530 yards. I didn’t want to have a lot of leftovers and since I’m a tight knitter, I knew I could make it with less than 656 yardage of yarn, regardless on rather I did the picot bind off or not. My Swans Island Natural Colors Merino Silk was close to that number. I had to take a chance, even if I didn’t know how much yarn I would use.

I picked dark green metallic beads and committed to casting on. I did measure the skein after completing each chart. I did change needle sizes as instructed and thought that if I stayed with size 5 needles even if the pattern tells me to upgrade a size, I could have a little extra yarn to help complete the shawl. Sadly, the next time pattern wanted to change needle size was at the very last chart. >.< I managed to reach the final three rows of the shawl and ran out of yarn on the 9th row with 70 stitches left to knit. I lost to yarn chicken. I did have yarn that was similar color but it was fingering weight. Still,I used it to finish the remaining 70 stitches and use leftovers from my dark green “Out of Darkness” to bind off early.
