What was suppose to be a traveling project ended up being my main project for 1 1/2 weeks. I couldn’t put it down. Using two different sister skeins of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light that have been in my stash for a really long time, I was excited to cast on. Somehow I mixed the tags as I winded both skeins into cakes so I can’t tell which name belonged to which. Even my picture of them are different colors from other owners of the same yarn. But ignoring that problem, I casted on with the lighter purple skein since I believed it would show the pattern off clearly.
While it was easy to remember the pattern while knitting both halves of the shawl, it was hard to read my knitting on the wrong side row. It was very easy to get lost in the zone and knit the stitch that I was suppose to slip. Stitch markers would help even though I had to move them during the right side row. I did play yarn chicken is see how much yarn I could use up with the first skein and I made it with a foot of yarn to spare. But I remembered that one of the skeins was 2 grams shorter than the other and I couldn’t remember which one. So I ripped back 8 rows. Better to have enough yarn for the second half of the shawl than to run out completely. l had 216 stitches on the needle before switch to the dark purple skein. In the end, it turns out that I had enough yarn all along.
Overall, this was a fun pattern to knit. Next time I won’t be stubborn to use more stitch markers to help me be more focused when knitting the wrong side rows. If I have another pair of yarn that complements each other, I would knit this shawl again.
