December 27, 2010: Grampa was bummed at no hat from me for Christmas, so starting one for him now :)

31-Jan-2011: This hat may well not be done until next Christmas at this rate. I started using magic loop - but the cable I chose was a bit too short.

So started again on dpns, but misread the pattern to be a 1x2, not a 2x2 rib.

So started again, and started getting into the hat body… and think I did something wrong.

So, today I started yet again - we’ll see how it goes. New project start date is actually today.

Feb 8: Something is still messed up. Purchased the pattern for Beth, she’s going to knit up to a few rows of the pattern so we can compare - perhaps I’m just seeing it wrong, but seems screwed up.

Feb 13: Yup, it was screwed up (don’t read charts backwards and expect intended results /sigh). Now on try 5 and done with the first repeat. As long as I don’t screw it up - it should be golden (well, really crimson - but you catch my drift).

Feb 17: And done! After an informal poll of folks I’ve come across that have knit this hat, I think perhaps it should be named “Never Again”. The pattern is well written, just awkward if you lose your place (and omg do not drop a stitch - I actually considered lifelines) - do remember to read chart from right!!!!

I will probably make this hat again as it turned out beautifully, but not soon. Similar to labor, you need to let the pain fade a bit before you consider THAT undertaking again.
