Notes

I originally bought 1 skein of the mohair and 1 skein of the merino at the KW Knitter’s fair in 2019. I was going to make something small to see what I thought of mohair again after all these years. The swatches were so nice and I could not come up with any accessory ideas, so I eventually ordered 2 more of each skein from Laura so that I could do a proper sweater.

She was right, this mohair is nothing like the mohair of my previous experience! It is extremely soft next to the skin, especially when blended with the merino.

I’m using the yoke algorithm I came up with on my Silver Peak sweater, and am giving it some more testing with another gauge/style of sweater. So far so good! The yoke algorithm in question allows me to do a top-down raglan, in the round, but still with neck shaping that has sufficient back.vs.front neck depths. This is so that it doesn’t sit high at the front and low at the back as many of my top-down-in-the-round raglan sweaters do.

It’s been a few weeks and this sweater has just flown by! I’m already nearing the halfway point on the second sleeve. The luminescent blue halo on this blend, with the gold flecks, is hard to describe.

I frogged the entire 1x1 ribbed yoke after the first time through as I felt I had made too many visible irregular decreases next to the lace-paneled raglan lines. It was quite worth it. Also I was surprised at how well the yarn frogged. When frogging, I just re-wound the 2 strands as one into a loose ball of yarn, rather than trying to separate them again.

This is another sweater where we are going to have to see what blocking does… I have high hopes… It fits nicely, but it is coming out more fitted than I intended.

Fit is perfect after blocking. I only wish I’d started the bottom triangle detail, at the side seams, higher up. That detail was made up on the spot so I guess it’s all right, considering. I might try to write this up and make it again…. undecided.

After wearing this mohair/merino blend over a tank top for a full day, I have to say this is one if the most comfortable sweaters I now own. Thank goodness for newer softer mohair! I have always loved the halo on it… .. now that I know it exists in a newer itch-free form, I’m going to be on the lookout for it!
