Cast On 152 stitches. Use stitch markers to separate 4 stitches on each edge and every 12 stitches in between.

Knit 6 rows for bottom border

For smooth edges:

Beginning of row: SLIP the first stitch of each row, knit the 3 other edge stitches.
At the end of each row: knit the 3 edge stitches and PURL the final stitch

Begin Old Shale/Fan Feather pattern:

row 1: purl
row 2: (K2tog)x2, (YO, k)x 4, (k2tog)x2
row 3: knit
row 4: Knit

Continue pattern until desired length, then repeat row 1

Knit 6 rows for top border then cast off.
