5 spikes worked in the round:

CO 22 leaving a tail to sew on the spike. K plain, * ssk, K7, k2tog * repeat * to * , work a plain round then a decrease round (work 2 fewer Ks between the decreases each round) until 3 sts left. K around, * sl2tog, K1, psso * repeat * to * , pull yarn through both live stitches to fasten off, pull yarn to inside of spike and tie a knot. No need to weave in end, just leave it inside the spike.
