Notes

Another coasters pattern underway as I am making loads of coasters for Christmas.

This one is quick, easy and pretty. So it’s going to be a firm favourite!

Yarn used
Using Drops Muskat (which is cotton dk) because I like the firmness of this yarn for coasters (and it’s not too splitty either).

Hooks Used:
3mm for rounds 1-4
3.5mm for round 5 and surface slip stitches
(I find it helps to use a larger hook for edges to stop them curling and the sl sts so they are not too tight).

Pattern
Followed to the letter, inc ch2 for starting dc in round 1, as I find this really helps to hide the ch join.

Pattern is very, very easy, with loads of pictures for beginners to look at.

Finished Coasters measure 4.75 inches (12 cms) across.

Amount of yarn used
Set of 4 used less than 1 skein of the main yarn and hardly any of the sl st colour.
Second set used the same.
So overall, for 8 coasters, this used about 90% of each skein, so basically 2 skeins will make 8 coasters.

First set of 4 made in Bordeaux (which is a lovely rich burgundy yarn (looks better in daylight than in my pictures) and the light grey used for the surface slip stitches is actually quite silver looking, so makes a nice contrast.

For the next set of 4 I intend to reverse the colours.

Contrasting Set Made
Set of 4 coasters made in opposite colours.
Light grey for main colour and bordeaux for surface sl stitch.

Note on yarn:
Light grey yarn although the same type, is more splitty than the bordeaux (but once I found this out, it just required a more careful approach). It also produces a coaster which is a fraction smaller.

But overall, I’m pleased that I now have 2 sets of coasters (or may make the sets with 2 of each collour…will see).

Nice, easy pattern to use and I’ll make more of these in other colours later.
