Notes

I had been saving some skeins of Boho Spirit yarn for the right project and I think this fits the bill.
It’s a bright and cheerful poncho for a child of about 3 to 5 years.

Pattern:
Lovely, easy and pretty pattern. Well-explained with lots of help for making different sized ponchos.
It was designed for worsted-weight yarn and the pattern gives a nice, open lacy look poncho ideal for spring and summer evening.
I changed one small part and that was I joined the two pieces with a wip stitch in the same colour as the nearby yarn. Because my yarn was a little lighter than worsted, the slip stitch join didn’t ‘catch’ that well.

Working the pattern:
The yarn I am using is between worsted and light worsted weight (and it varies in thickness throughout, according to colour being used), but I decided to go with the same size hooks as recommended, with a couple of additions:
Hooks used:
Starting chain - 6mm hook (I chain a little tightly)
Most of the pattern - 5.5mm hook.
the fpdc/bpdc around the neckline - 5mm hook which seemed to work well in making a stretchy, but fitting neck.

Getting right size for yarn:
Also because of slightly slimmer size in yarn…
I chose the starting ch for 6 - 8 years, knowing it would work up smaller. And I was correct. I chose to ch 98 to start and the rectangle sizes and poncho overall turned out to be the correct size for a 4-5 year old.

Finishing:
Border - made 3 rows of sc - crocheted loosely so it wouldn’t pull on the lacy design.

Neckline - worked according to pattern, but with a 5mm hook second row and after.
Also made 2 sc rows to complete.

Measurements:
Neck circumference: 23 inches ‘give’ to put on but fits snug.
Length - base of neck to point 9front and back): 17.5 inches.
Base of neckline to elbow: 12 inches.

Yarn used:
Cygnet Boho Spirit. It reminds me of Red Heart Unforgettable and, for me, is a similar thickness and use of colours. However, it might just be that I’m used to working with this kind of yarn now, but for me Boho Spirit does seem a little easier to work than Red Heart Unforgettable.
The yarn does have a few ‘clumps’ which can appear as you work the yarn, but very rare.
It is not the easiest yarn to work, but I love it!
The way the colours change works very well for projects like this. I would imagine it works well for scarves and shawls too.

Overall:
Lovely pattern and love how the yarn worked with it.
Very pleased and will make more smile
