Notes

Email notes:
Please welcome Joyce aka Knitjoyz, who designed an amazing pattern for us for Round 4 called Adamant Hearts, a beautiful stranded colorwork pattern. Make sure to read the pattern carefully.

Again, read carefully - both the pattern and the submission requirements. It’s competition time and the numbers are slowly dwindling. Needing to fix things you did wrong or add additional photos could cost you a spot on your team moving forward. Though yarn choice remains yours, be warned that choosing without thought as to how the yarns will work with the pattern may require you to take more pictures and take longer to get you checked in and risk your team filling in the interim. Yarns with good contrast will be much easier to check in.

Reminder:
Color choice questions belong in your team thread or in the pattern chat thread, as do needle size questions. Any color choice or needle questions in the pattern Questions thread will be deleted without comment. Thank you!

Submission Requirements:
There is one size - 72 stitches. To adjust size, change needle size or yarn thickness. The dimensions of the sock (when knitted at the stated gauge) will be provided in one of the first posts of the Question thread.
If there is no repeat indicated, work it as many times around as needed and once vertically.
The pattern must be knit as is. The cuff/leg/foot/toe cannot be changed. If you would like a longer leg you may add full repeats of the leg chart.
ALL required photos must be added to your project page. Never attach photos to your email unless specifically asked to do so by a mod.

Photo Requirements:
Be sure your photos are in focus!

  1. Your progress photo.
  2. Your photo showing the socks on adult feet, or with blockers/faux feet and a measuring device showing they are at least the 9”/22.9cm minimum length.
  3. A side view photo - the entirety of both socks must be visible in one photo and laying flat. This means not modeled on adult feet.
  4. A front view photo - the entirety of the front of both socks must be visible in one photo with the socks laying flat. This means not modeled on adult feet.
  5. A photo of the sole - the entirety of the soles of both socks must be visible and laying flat. This means not modeled on adult feet.
  6. A photo of the back and heels - the entirety of the backs of both socks, where all of the back and heel flaps are visible, in one photo and laying flat. This means not modeled on adult feet.

Email a link for your project page to finished@sockmadnessforever.com with the appropriate subject line:
Competitors: Your subject should be “Finished Adamant Hearts” followed by your ravname.
Cheerleaders trying for a bonus pattern: “Cheerleader Adamant Hearts” followed by your ravname.
(For example, Subject: “Finished Adamant Hearts Iffygauge” or “Cheerleader Adamant Hearts Iffygauge”.)
The text of your email must include:

  1. Your team name,
  2. Your Ravname, and
  3. A link to your project page

You have the entire pattern; there is nothing else to add.
We’re not kidding, this really is the entire pattern. Remember, have fun!

The round will end 14 days from the timestamp of this email, or earlier if all team spots are filled.
Have fun!

My notes:
May 4.
That was one of The Longest 48 hours!! But the sock pattern is finally here.

I will knit a cheerleader version for Katherine.

May 11.
Now that Round 4 of Sock Madness is finished, I have a confession to make. I had decided, as a cheerleader, to knit the cheerleader version as pictured on the pattern page. I might have been able to finish them in 2 weeks (I was pacing myself to do that), but with the round ending today… (Here comes the confession): I will now admit publicly that I am so glad that I don’t have to finish two of them! As is, I’ve turned a heel and picked up stitches. So, in the time it took 250 people to knit a pair of Adamant Hearts, I’ve managed to knit roughly 1/2 of a 1/2 of a sock.
Adamant HeartSocks for Katherine
so happy that Katherine likes and wears mismatched socks, including foreshortened socks like these

The really interesting thing is that these socks are knit from a chart, with no written instructions, which is very doable. I’d like to see more of this type of pattern in future Sock Madness competitions.

2 March 2022
I pulled this sock out of time out because… because… I need the needles for this year’s sock madness.

31 March 2022
The finished result? A singleton yoga sock (no toe, no leg to speak of). I will keep this to remind myself that I, too, can do stranded knitting!
