Attempting to replicate the stripey shawl Claire wears in S4. Here are my observations and plans:

• Worked entirely in Garter stitch
• The largest brown portion is a slightly different (darker) shade of brown than the one used below the black stripes
• Inc using a kfb or m1 along edges
• Inc with a yo on either side of spine
• Two (four) rows each of black and lighter brown for stripes
• Bound off with darker brown or black

This DROPS shawl pattern is almost exactly the same as what I’m trying to achieve. (Used it for Jocasta’s shawl, too, only having added a slight ruffle to the bottom.)

Amending the pattern as such:
CO 5 sts.
R1: k2, m1, k1, m1, k2.
R2: knit across.
R3: k2, m1, k1, yo, pm, K1, pm, yo, k1, m1, k2.
R4: knit across.
R5: k2, m1, work to middle stitch, yo, k1, yo, work until 2 sta rem, m1, k2.
Rep rows 4 & 5. Switch colors as needed.

• Basically just changing the outer edge incs from YOs to M1s so there isn’t a big hole. Also adding 1 st to the edge. That’s pretty much it.

2/11: was planning on using the Cascade called Pumpkin Heather for the bottom part but it turned out to be far too orange. So I went to my LYS and got a shade of brown much closer to what I wanted. Cool.

2/15: this turned out PERFECT!! After the last section of lighter brown at the bottom, I worked one row of garter in black on the RS, and bound off knitwise on the WS. Dead ringer for the shawl shown on TV. Very happy with how it turned out. The only thing I would change would be to knit the YOs normally and not tbl like I did. The holes aren’t quite as open as they are on Claire’s shawl but that’s okay.
