Notes

Zach wants a volcano hat.
Here’s what I’m thinking:

  • brown/grey for base
  • orange/red for lava running down
  • flattened top
  • orange/red bursts of yarn strands out of top

My daughter is happily modeling the hat herself.

Notes:

Knit hat from bottom up as usual, holding yarn double. (Used Cascade 220 and wanted it to be thick.)

Began adding in red at various random points and built onto lava flows as I went up with the intention of leaving some spaces of brown of different lengths in between.

Decreases began at usual place while continuing the lava “pattern.” Once I reached a point where I had enough sts remaining to form approximately a 2 inch diameter, I decreased more slowly as to create a bit of a spout that stands up.

When I reached the point at which I wanted the hat to end, I did a “turn row” of purls, then decreased rapidly to make the top flat.

Added some loose strands of red yarn for extra lava explosiveness. ;)
