Notes

I did use the designers adjustments (errata) to make the cardigan looser in the upper sleeves and front. I had some trouble with the arm decreases in pattern. I didn’t like the large non-cabled areas where there were not enough stitches to do the cable pattern. I ended up ripping back these areas and “fudging” cables in, even if there were not enough stitches for a real cable. This helped a lot. Originally, I really didn’t like the fit of the sweater and came VERY close to frogging after it was finished. The more I wore it though, the more I liked it. I then decided not to frog after all. Then I washed it. It came out of the wash tub looking like a robe! I have never had a garment grow this much. I did some reading and apparently the silk in the yarn was causing it. No amount of squishing was going to bring it back to the original size. I was sad. I really wanted to throw it in the dryer, but was very scared to felt the thing. A friend suggested I knit a swatch, wash it and then dry it in the dryer. The swatch dried up beautifully, shrinking back to the original size. I did the same with the sweater, checking it in the dryer every few minutes. Once it got back to the right size, I took it out and dried it flat. Now I like it again :)
