Special colorway made just for this, made from 3 gradient sets: one slightly modified Merlin and Vivien, one Mrs Potts and one Barrows down. I’m not using them quite in order: 3 greys are mixed into the lighter blues, and the 3 darker greys will come in after the last purple.
The edge of the pattern doesn’t fit with a gradient yarn, so I’ll find something else when I get there.
The plan for this colorway was to start with the lightest grey, then alternate: blue, grey, blue, grey, then go on from there until I got to the end of the purples, and then to finish with the darker greys. But, after knitting the first blue, I decided that I couldn’t go back to the grey, the blue was too lovely and would look lonely surrounded by all greys. So, instead, after the 2 rows of transition I had planned where I alternated between the new grey and the first blue, I decided to introduce the second blue immediately and started alternating every row between the blue yarn and the grey yarn. I think it looks awesome! I’ll keep doing it until the 3 lighter greys are gone, the darker ones really need to be kept for the end of the purple, but I might just do the same thing, start alternating between the last purples and the last greys.
As for the edging, if I have enough yarn to do it all with a single skein, I might keep the last grey for that. I’ll have to get closer to it to properly evaluate the situation.
One thing’s for sure: the knitting is coming along great. The yarn is a joy to knit and the pattern changes enough to be interesting all the way through.
Mixing the grey and the blue one row each works wonderfully, so it gave me a strategy for the edging in case 1 skein isn’t enough. I’ll do the same with the last 2 greys! This way I can use the original edging and not worry about it anymore.
29/10/2018: I’m confused. I’m almost done with the pattern and I have a LOT of yarn left. There’s a mystery here somewhere… I bought 3 sets of 300g each, for a total of 900g, and according to the label, that’s just about 2000 yds, as required by the pattern. But it’s much too much, I’ll only have used about 2/3 of that at the end of the border. Since I really want to use as much of this special colorway as possible, I’ll make the blanket larger. First, I’ll repeat the treillis section and add a few wedges. Then I’ll see where I stand. Perhaps I can finish while still in the purple color and keep the 3 darkest greys for another project.
18/11/2018: into the edging now. Afte making the blanket a bit larger, I started the edging almost as described in the pattern ( attaching as I go along and knitting the purls and purling the knits to get a look that pleases me more ) with the two last purple skeins, alternating between them every 2 rows. I quickly realized I would never have enough yarn… So I decided to make the same trim but leave off the first stitches. So I’m starting at the position of the first k2tog of row 1, but I’ve changed it to a simple knit stitch. The rest is the same. So far I think I’ll be fine with the yarn but I’ll need to check many times along the way.
23/11/2018: All done. Just a few grams of yarn left of each skein. I swapped them along the way because one was being used up faster. It¡s gorgeous!
