Notes

I’ll need to buy yarn for this so it will have to wait. I’m looking at Eos, the gradiance colorways are awesome. Don’t know which ones though, here are my favorites so far: supernova, moonlight in the garden, silverlode, goddess, or bermuda.

I ended up buying the dark mulberry colorway, I really liked that it went all the way to almost black.
Beads are 8/0 duracoat in hot pink, 4 containers.

The twisted decreases in chart 3 were easy to forget. I realized around row 26 that I had not done them at all and those lines of stitches were messy. Decided to rip back and reknit all those rows. It’s a good thing that I have plenty of time to knit this piece.

Well, it turns out I should have made computations about the border before getting there. I’m 1/4 of the way in, and I’ve used up more that 1/4 of that last skein. The solution is simple: use skein #5 for 2 rows every 8 or 10 rows, about 2-3 times per chart. But, not having done it since the beginning of the border, I wonder if I should restart the whole border? The difference between the 2 skeins is subtle. Perhaps I can do a couple of repeats and re evaluate if I can actually see them?

A few repeats in and yes, I can spot the stripes with the other skein, because I know to look for them. It’s not like I can avoid using this other color. The real question was: did I want to rip out the first quarter of the edging to add the new yarn there too? Well, I don’t see the point after all. It’s barely visible and the fact that it’s not present in some repeats simply doesn’t show. It all looks like some shadows and light playing on the stiches.

Wow, that was a lot of beads…
I ended up using 3 2/3 containers, so that was fine.
I estimate that the edge takes 26 or 27 g of yarn. The skeins were 28g each, so technically I would have made it, but that’s much too close for comfort.
With my transitions, the shawl took
10g of color 1
16g of color 2
11g of color 3
17g of color 4
18g of color 5 ( 6 of which are in the border )
20g of color 6
Not the most perfect balance but it’s gorgeous.

The shawl was given as a wedding gift to my new DIL. The Evenstar pattern was perfect for her, she’s just passionate about everything LOTR.
