GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PATTERN
The pattern is called
“Basic Socks a la Jeanne” and is from the yarn store Knitting Addiction.
I can recommend this pattern to anyone who wants to knit socks for the first time.
The pattern is clearly written and easy to follow. You can buy the pattern at the shop or over the phone. You get it for free with the purchase of yarn to finish your project.
I followed the instructions for Sport weight yarn (CO 52)
They are all finished! My very first pair of socks!
I can’t wait to see Richard wear them :)
I turned the heels!
I had to call the store to order one more skein because my six ft 4 inch son has big feet and long legs so two skeins which would ordinarily be enough were not enough for him. I talked with Jeanne at the store and she was very friendly and helpful.
STARTING THE PROJECT DAY 1
This is my first attempt at socks. I am knitting everyone something for Christmas, so socks seemed the right choice for Richard. He likes to wear crazy multicolored hats when going snowboarding so why not crazy looking warm socks. I was looking for the kind of sock yarn which doesn’t just self-stripe but also creates fair isle looking patterns. This yarn has one section otherwise it is just stripes. It knits up nice and is supposed to be super-wash so I think this is a good choice yarn.
A rather odd thing is that the two balls of yarn are not dyed in the same sequence and it took some work of cutting and joining the yarn to make the two socks look alike.
