I have been knitting a few of the grrrlfriend market bags and when I saw someone at the knitting group knit this one, I became interested to try the different style as a gift to our son’s parents in law.
Luckily Jennifer let me photocopy the pattern since I don’t see it available on line any longer.
12.3. I did a provisional cast on rather than trying to pick up sts later.
I wish, I had read the tip to use a larger needle for casting on sooner, but by the time I had already knitted two rounds, I didn’t want to restart, but I did then go down from a size 6 to a size 4 needle for the fold over band.
So, I didn’t follow the instructions too carefully and did a 3-needle bind off ( for the handles) and a 3-needle join ( for the body of the bag) in the same row, followed immediately by casting on the 25 sts under each handle. It won’t look the same, but I think it will work….
I did seven knit rows, then started the mesh, first on US#6, then one row on #10 and finally switching to # 13 for a more gradual increase in stitch size.
12.4.I thought about crocheting the cast on edge under the handles, but as the bag grows and I look at it, I am liking the rolled edge.
This is hard to put down…round and round it goes….especially since I am knitting this up in the Addi Swarovski needles which were a gift from my daughter in law last Christmas.
12.10. Knitted the mesh for about 12“, then 1row of knit on the big needle, followed by 3 rows on #6 needle. Switch to #4 for the bottom. Then I am working the bottom as follows k10, PM , k55, PM, k20, PM, k54, k2tog, PM, k10. 150 sts left. Working decreases left and right of markers until the 20 sts are gone and finally a three needle bind off over the remaining 35 sts. Smile
Hardest was to find the placement as the BOR had shifted during the knitting of the body of the bag. But I think I eyeballed it pretty well. Soaked and blocked, then added some embellishments.
