9 1/4 inches in diameter
Needles & yarn
US 4 - 3.5 mm
Lily (Spinrite) Sugar'n Cream Solids
Notes

I am calling this Marguerite, because Marguerites are larger than daisies. This is definitely larger than the original , but therefore also easier for those who have never done intarsia.

Someone asked me for a lesson on this pattern and I suggested thick yarn and larger (#4) needles for easier learning the different techniques. Some knitters learn more easily hands on with someone guiding them along.

A wonderful project to learn the following:

  • Provisional cast on.
  • How to change yarns in color work.
  • How to carry yarn forward and backwards in intarsia.
  • How to graft in garter stitch.

Double benefit: this daisy is a good teaching tool and perfect gift for a friend who is a member of EPO who uses the Daisy as its symbol.

I didn’t get the chance to finish with the student who took the first part of the class, but finally took the time to do the final step of Kitchener stitching it together. I think it is the best grafting job I have done. You can’t really see where the seam is unless you look very closely.
This is a gift for someone who is a member of the P.E.D. whose symbol is a daisy blossom

A special coincidence

The very day I finished this, my husband was watching a show about narrow boats on the canals in England and one of the boats it passed was named Sedmikraska which is Czech for Daisy. I found out by looking it up on Wiki and I also came across this lovely Czech song about daisies. Click here to listen to it:
