My son had bought the book “Knitting on Top of the world” by Nicky Epstein for my birthday and which better pattern to knit up than the dragon. I am making the dragon of various left over and other yarns, even some gold threat I had from knitting bracelets.
I changed the color scheme to colors which will all wish him good luck, so it’s my version of a Fuku Riu, Good Luck Dragon. Blue and Green for good fortune, good health and good luck. Yellow for imperial, the center of the Earth, Gold for wealth, wisdom, kindness and the ability to face challenges head-on. Red for fire, activity and good fortune.
I am making a smaller version and the various pieces knitted up fairly fast in just a few days. I now have “dragon-soup” (skin, legs, and various parts).
The big job of sewing the pieces together and stuffing them is still ahead of me.
I am pretty sure that this little dragon will be kept whereas a card would probably just end up in the bin.
Using such fine yarn made the stuffing a bit of a challenge, because I wanted to stuff it firmly, but didn’t want the stuffing to show through the yarn. So he was a little floppy in the end and I ended up using some floral wire for the neck and the wings and I put some fishing line between the first and seventh back plates to hang Mr Dragon up.
