I am not 100% sure what the yarn is; it is merino and it was a gift, but there is no lable.
Making this for my friend’s grandson who will be two years old in October.
I used Jenni’s strtchy cast on.
After the ribbing I added a strand of lace yarn and continued in pattern
This being a variegated yarn, the pattern is barely visible. I feels a bit like a wasted efford.

The hat looked too plain and I added a fair isle band.
The pattern is a multiple of 6 sts and rather than going down in stitch numbers, I added 4 sts in the last MC round before the motif. Of course I had not thought of that right away, so I had to start a second time. Then I didn’t pay attention with the pattern and started a third time. Third time lucky and it looks good now. I will knit to 6 1/2 inches from the rim to give a little extra room to grow. The baby will be two years in October, just as winter starts.
So, I have 68+4=72 sts. I will decrease to 64 before starting the crown at 6 1/2 inches.
