UPDATE JANUARY 2022:
While in quarantine for Covid I changed the neckline. I am not a fan of oversized necklines which keep slipping over the shoulders and leave the neck exposed and cold.
I re-knitted the ribbing on a smaller needle while at the same time working 2tog and ssk left and right of the stitch which is aligned with the left and right shoulder seams. I decreased 3 sts on each shoulder in the back and six sts on each shoulder in the front. It feels much better. The neckline lifts and shapes the overall fit better.
————————————————

Three things attracted me to this sweater:

  1. Fisherman’s rib pattern which is so squishy and soft ( I made two cowls in this stitch).
  2. The halo and extra softness you get from the kid mohair.
  3. The color in the sample. I don’t usually copy the exact color, but did with this one.

During this time of corona quarantine I take or make any comfort I can get.
First major decision was how much oversized I wanted this. I first decided on 42 for a nice and cozy fit, then double checked the sizes of other oversized sweaters ( Boyfriend, Felix, Tealeaf….) and restarted in size 39.
If this decision is the hardest part, I’ll be happy. I can never decide how much oversized I want something. 40 would be good and I may tweak it to that.
Joining right and left front:This is the point at which you can tweak your size a little by casting on more or less stitches for the neck. Using Jenni’s stretchy cast on I cast on 17 sts for a total of 87 sts. Then I purled across the new sts in the first (WS) row, then picked up the fisherman’s rib pattern across all sts in the next RS row.
Have to be a little careful to catch all of the strands of yarn, but all in all this is good mindless TV knitting.
I could have almost guessed that this would happen. I kept knitting and before I knew it, the piece was longer than needed. I took a few rows out, but kept it at 2” longer than in pattern.
5.3. The front is done.
5.20 Front and back are done.
6.1. After a break working on the tea cozy which needs to be ready by next week, I started on the sleeves in the smallest size.
6.11. All pieces are done. Now on to blocking, seaming and knitting the neck opening ribbing.
6.30. After a Long break on this ( the Heat didn’t help), I promised myself not to start anything else until this sweater is done.
Seaming is really not my favorite thing to do.
Seamed the shoulders, picked up sts for the neck band and finished the neckband.
7.1. Seamed the left sleeve starting from the underarm and leaving half the yarn hanging to seam the left side seam.
7.2. Seamed the other sleeve and the side seams and I am DONE!!!
It’s a bit longer than I would have wanted, also the sleeves are on the long side and I may redo the neckband bind off using a regular bind off instead of the stretchy one I used, but right now I cannot wear the sweater more than five minutes and time will tell when I start wearing it this Winter. I am looking forward to cozy up in it. Sooo soft and squishy.
