10.27. And then there was a photo shoot of epic proportions when I asked hubby to take ONE picture joy
——————————————————————————-
I had been wanting to knit up a guernsey sweater for a while. Originally I was going to design my own, but I also have this pattern in my library and when I used less yarn than expected on my son’s sweater, I was able to exchange yarn for this one.
The color was advertised more as a deep blue, but looks almost black with some other shading; quite pretty and I could loose myself looking at it.
I am using the gold plated Addi’s my DIL had gotten me for Christmas, thus the title to this project.
Going to make it easy on myself and just follow the pattern for once smiling_face_with_3_hearts
Once I get to chart B , after splitting front and back, I still knit both at the same time. That way I have to read each row just once and apply it twice. I am using a chain of numbered stitch markers to keep track on which row I am at. I have to really concentrate during this part, especially when knitting the WS as I have to think backwards ( knit the purls, purl the knits), but it’s starting to look quite pretty and I am motivated to get this finished.
9.26. I cannot remember when and why I had put this down. I know I was eager to finish the sleeves on my friend’s sweater and to do a test knit for another friend on her sock pattern… I any case, I finally picked this up again tonight and figured out where I left off and knitted a couple of rows. Finishing the back should just be a matter of a couple of days.
Shoulders 10.1. I finished the back today and joined the shoulders. I knitted to row 20 in the front and to row 19 in the back, then left the sts for the shoulders live and Kitchener stitched , even remembered to Purl to sts to stay in pattern. I know that that’s not a usual thing to do for guernsey sweaters, but I kind of like it.
Knitted the neck band next. I look at the sweater being knitted in three parts: upper body, sleeves, lower body.
Now on to the sleeves which I do two at a time.
Sleeves. At 21 inches the sleeves are too long for my liking. I measured the sleeve length on some other sweaters and will go with a total length of 17.5- 18 inches tops. Starting the ribbing after 15 inches for another 2.5 inches.
Using the longest cables I have when I started on the cuff ribbing with the smaller needles. This way I can easily try it on to double check the sleeve length.
10.12. Working on the final body ribbing now. I wonder how tall the model is in the pattern picture as the length of the sleeves and the body are considerably shorter on my sweater ( I am 5ft 4inches).
