The idea for this piece was incited by Susan Phillipo’s Filigree Necklace, plus a desire to practice some of the new tatting techniques that have been developed.
Also, I am greatly frustrated by the tyranny of having to pre-string beads on my working thread when doing bead work. I want to be able to put beads when & where I want!
Modifications to the pattern:
-
When I got to a place where I wanted to put a bead, I used a tapestry needle threaded with a knotted loop of heavy quilting thread. I looped the quilting thread around the crochet thread and used that to pull the crochet thread thru the bead, as opposed to using a super tiny crochet hook to pull the crochet thread thru the bead. Once the bead was on the crochet thread loop, I passed the shuttle thru the end of loop to tie the bead into the tatting. I used this method because by the time you get a super tiny crochet hook, you’ve got a hook that’s too tiny to get a good grip on the crochet thread without splitting it. Using the thread loop was much easier, and the heavy quilting thread made it easy to undo the thread loop after I pulled the crochet thread thru the bead.
-
I used SCMRs to make the triangles at the ends, but this was the hard way to do it! Regular 3-3-3 rings with 3 chains between them would have worked just as well.
-
I added a bead tail. The general idea is that the wearer can slide the bead tail thru a triangle, and pull it up to “fasten” the … bracelet? anklet? whatever ….
