9/3/2010 - After knitting for about an hour on this today, I realized that I didn’t like the way the pattern had a 4 stitch wide line of stockinette stitch in the middle of the pattern. I frogged and cast on again.

9/3 cont. OK, I kept the amount of stitches in the cast on at 68, but instead of doing the K2, P2 at the beginning of each row and the K2 at the end of each row, I just did the directions between the star* . Done this way you don’t get the line of stockinette stitch down the bag, you get pattern all the way around.

9/5/2010 - knit to the half way point last night. The pattern looks so much better with the modifications. I wouldn’t have been able to deal with the stockinette band going down the center or side (depending on where you want it when you sew the seam at the bottom.)

9/5/2010 cont. - reached the point where the piece was 9 inches. I split the stitches, bound off 34 of them, and on the other 34 I am knitting straight k2/p2, but decreasing one stitch at the beginning of each row (ws and rs), until the flap measures a couple inches. Then bind off stitches and put on a button and create a button loop or other fastener of your choice.

Pick up 68 stitches on the opening on the bottom and do the 2 needle bind off. Weave in ends.

This is made to fit a Kindle 3, but honestly, it is so stretchy that you can fit the larger Kindle 2 in it as well. Also, my Mom has a Kindle 3 with the extra leather case, and it fits in this case because the stitch pattern allows for a nice stretchy fabric.
