This is a large Shetland-style lace shawl, hand-knitted from a fine merino yarn I had in my stash for quite some time. It was originally purchased as cashmere (or at least I thought so!), but turned out to be a soft, lightweight merino — still a beautiful fibre to work with.
The finished dimensions are approximately 260 cm long by 70 cm wide, and the total weight is just under 250 grams, making it surprisingly light for its size. The body is worked in a rich dark brown, with a contrasting cream lace edging.
I was a bit nervous while knitting — unsure if I’d have enough yarn to finish it properly. But in the end, it all worked out, and the shawl turned out just as I’d hoped: soft, elegant, and airy, with a lovely drape.
