The site where I found this pattern (see link above) is a goldmine for a new machine knitter. The owner provides instructions for basic cardigans and pullovers at multiple gauges, and she generally has a lot of great resources on her site which is also completely charming I might add.
This is the most successful thing I have machine knit so far. I used the wrong cast off (3 needle bind off instead of latch hook cast off) on the sleeves and they weren’t as stretchy as they would have been had I followed instructions. Next time!
Firsts: I did all the ribbing (except the neck/buttonband) on the machine by dropping every second stitch and latching up. I’m not super happy with the finished edge, maybe picking up and knitting from waste yarn has a better end result, I’ll try that next time. (what I mean to say is, the finished edge is actually the cast-on- if I do it the other way it will be the cast-off).
Fully-fashioned increases on the sleeves look really professional and nice.
This light fingering weight yarn knit like lightning, it is obviously the intended weight for this standard gauge machine. I am pleased and surprised with the success I have had with DK in other projects in spite of this! The heavier yarn takes a lot of managing but knits fine.
