I did a chain stitch for the mouth before I did the nostrils. That way you can anchor/fasten the yarn better.

I crocheted the eyes instead of using safety eyes. I used sport weight yarn. I used a smaller hook and chained 2. Then 4 single crochet, slip stitch to beginning single crochet. This is smaller than the spots.

I followed the directions for the spots for one spot and then my second spot I chained 2, 6 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and slip stitched to the first single crochet. I see no difference, I did my spots like I did my second spot.
