Suzanne M Ross published a knitting pattern Autumn Glory in October that I can’t get out of my head.
Finally I’m giving in, but instead of knitting it, I’ll be weaving it on the Hazel Rose Quilt Weaver Set, a combination of triangle and square pin looms with a side length of 7”. I estimate the finished size to be 52” x 52”.
Note that you could also use Hazel Rose’s Tiny Weaver Set, side length 3.5”, which would make a perfect newborn blanket or table runner, depending you which yarn you use.
While I love KnitPicks Wool of the Andes, and it would work well on these looms, I chose Paintbox Simply Aran from LoveKnitting, because I have it on hand.
I have not decided on all yarn colors yet, and I list only the ones that are “final”. I have several options for the “orange/yellow/natural” outstanding. I’m starting with the colors that I’m sure about, so to say “working my way from the center out”. I have also not yet estimated the final amounts of yarn that I’ll need for each color, I’ll just add that as I go.
Some fun statistics: It takes me about 10 minutes to weave a triangle. There are 16 x 16 = 256 triangles to make, which comes to about 43 hours of weaving time, plus assembly and probably crocheting a border around it. Since this is not one of my primary project to work on, I set my goal to have the afghan completed by September 1st, 2018. Or earlier, because it’s really fun to weave …
While I based my estimates on triangles, there are 12 squares that can be woven in plain color. Not that this will make any difference in time, but I surely want to use both looms. Note here, that you could make the afghan with triangles only.
A note: I bought the pattern for the afghan, not because I need it, but because I honor that Susan’s efforts inspired me to make my own.
