Notes

When I first saw the new Berroco Portfolio Vol. 5, the hardest decision was what to knit first.

I decided to go for Donna Yacino’s Beachrock Cardigan, because:

  • I like cardigans.
  • I’ve not yet made anything using the big-sister-to-my-beloved-Remix-Light yarn “Remix”.
  • I rescued some Remix last fall from a friend but hadn’t found a purpose for it yet.

So, here it goes.

  • I’m at about 13” into the body.
  • The yarn is a treat to touch with every stitch.
  • I went down two needle sizes to achieve gauge, but I knit loosely.
  • The pattern is a no-brainer so far.
  • I’m adding a merlot stripe to the body and maybe the sleeves to work around the not-enough-yarn issue, and I already like the way it looks.

Because leisure knitting time is limited, I decided to work on my Beachrock first, then the Atwells. Both are very enjoyable and rewarding projects to work on! A treat.

First sleeve is started … knitting gives a glimpse of the promise to wearing this cuddly thing soon!

I decided against buttonholes … I think this cardi wants to be loosely wrapped. If I ever need it, I think a wide leather belt would make a perfect accessory.

Pockets:
Cast on 31 sts, work 42 rows in pattern, bind off on RS.

Attach pockets (about centered over the purple body stripe)
20 rows from the bottom, 22 stitches from the front edges, then just match up rows and stitches, which is really easy with this pattern.

Sleeve stripes (top down):
60 rows in red,
24 rows in purple,
12 rows in yellow,
Finish with 16 rows red (or as desired).
Bind-off on a first pattern row.

Body stripe (bottom up):
32 rows in red,
24 rows in purple,
then continue in red.
